Hypnosis for Inner Conflict Resolution….Introducing Parts
Therapy
by Roy Hunter
Published by Crown House Publishing Ltd.
Purchased through the Anglo-American Book Company…..price
£25.00
Parts therapy, which is closely allied to ego states therapy
and voice dialogue, was evolved into its modern form by the
famous American hypnotherapist Charles Tebbetts .
Roy Hunter was a disciple and friend of Tebbetts and refined
his original work into a therapy where the original concepts
have been retained, but refinements have been made along the
way, in the light of experience.
This therapy is based on the concept that our sub conscious
is made up of various parts and each part has what it
perceives as a positive role to play in ones personality.
Sometimes though these parts are in conflict, as we know
when we see a client who, for example, wants to give up
smoking or lose weight, and says……… ‘It’s as though part of
me really wants to stop (whatever), but another part of me
just forces me to continue.
Also, we already use the analogy of wearing different hats
for different situations and it may be, for example, that we
wear our sensible business hat on during the day and put on
the childlike silly hat at home in the evening.
Roy Hunter does not follow Parts Therapy blindly and forsake
all other forms of hypnotherapy but follows a system that
after induction and deepening he sets up ideomotor finger
responses and then asks a series of seven set questions.
If necessary, these seven questions are followed by further
exploration, in order to decide the best way forward for the
client.
It may be that an answer to a question reveals that a past
event is the initial cause to a problem and so regression is
more appropriate; whereas a ‘yes’ response to a question on
inner conflict would indicate Parts Therapy as a way
forward.
The actual process of the parts therapy is explained in
great detail in the book and sample scripts are given to aid
the reader, who is informed that the actual Parts Therapy
process revolves around eleven important steps.
These eleven steps are used to ….call out…identify….gain
rapport and question all relevant parts and then to mediate,
(not arbitrate), to reach agreement and integration with the
various parts concerned.
I personally found this book useful even though I was taught
a very much simpler version of parts therapy many years ago
and have used this simpler version in practice to good
effect.
OK, so this book which is just under 200 pages long could
probably have been written in around ten pages of A4 …but
that is no different to most books of this nature and at
least this is a very comprehensive manual of …
Background of…..
How to do it……
Pitfalls….
Sample scripts…..
and is not like some books that expect you to purchase
further CD’s etc. in order to be fully informed.
A one day workshop would also be a good way to learn this
process ….but you would then have to find one and probably
spend around £150 plus expenses.
So, overall, I think that the £25 purchase price of this
book represents a fair value when compared to other books on
hypnotherapy subjects.
