Update from UK based The Working Group for Hypnotherapy Regulation

Dear Colleague;

I am writing to you on behalf of the Working Group for Hypnotherapy Regulation.   We are composed of 24 U.K. based professional bodies representing over 120 training schools and over 4,000 hypnotherapists.

The Working Group has commenced a process of voluntary self-regulation for hypnotherapy by its member bodies creating a draft National Code of Ethics for hypnotherapists and their clients.

Our fundamental principle is to create a fully democratic profession.  Accordingly, the Code of Ethics is now available for viewing on our website, and we would like to ask for feedback on the Code which will form part of a consultation document.  A final version of the Code will then be published for a nationwide vote – one hypnotherapist, one vote, irrespective of your professional affiliation or background.  The results will be notified to the Department of Health and the Foundation for Integrated Health.

Since our launch in January, 2400 hypnotherapists have registered to participate in the regulatory programme and feedback has been excellent.  We anticipate reaching a democratic mandate from a majority of the profession by the end of the year.

To participate, please visit our website,  where you can comment on the code.  You should sign up for our free newsletter via the big blue button on the site, where you can learn more about the Group.  We are not a membership organization, take no fees or dues, and make no profits.  Your details are kept confidential and never distributed and you may unsubscribe at any time.

We welcome your input and, especially, hope you will take this opportunity to join the thousands of your colleagues already participating in the largest democratic exercise in the history of UK hypnotherapy.

Sincerely yours,

The Working Group for Hypnotherapy Regulation

The Working Group for Hypnotherapy Regulation

The Working Group for Hypnotherapy Regulation is formed of professional organisations that have chosen to work together to progress Voluntary Self Regulation in hypnotherapy and to create agreed standards in all aspects of the profession.

With its current constitution, the Group, by conservative estimate, represents 4000 professional practitioners, well over a hundred training schools and numerous professional associations.  Thus some 80% of the known profession is affiliated to the Group and this is an excellent starting place for a mandate.

The British Association for the Person Centred Approach (BAPCA) has initiated a petition, which we support, asking the government to consider all psychotherapies and not only CBT. All therapists have until the 3rd of March to sign. If you follow the link below it takes you directly to the petition.

It would be appreciated if you felt you could sign this petition and also send the link to anyone you might know. This issue is not orientation specific and would we would hope that you do feel able to sign and distribute. Direct link is: http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/Therapy/
