All communication can be hypnotic - verbal and non-verbal.
All language is by nature hypnotic.
Hypnotherapy is the skillful use of communication, both
verbal and non-verbal to accomplish a truly beneficial outcome.
Since language is hypnotic, since the communication of
ideas is hypnosis - we are all hypnotists. And we are practicing hypnosis on
each other and ourselves all day long. It’s called communication!
To the degree that we produce truly beneficial outcomes, we
are doing good hypnotherapy. But beneficial or not, we live actively producing
a constant flux of hypnotic trances, some of which we call conscious
personality, some of which we call subconscious or unconscious states of mind.
These are merely labels for the play of energies of our Mind/Heart/Body and
the ways in which we experience our lives as self and other.
If you have been to a hypnotist or hypnotherapist, you have
had an experience you may call ‘being hypnotised.’ This doesn’t mean you know
what hypnotherapy or hypnosis "is" as if they were a monolithic thing. If I go
to a desktop publisher who is using a 386PC with Windows 2.0 and you go to a
desktop publisher who has a 400MZ Pentium PC with Windows 98, we will have
quite different experiences of Desktop Publishing.
One of us may love it; one of us may hate it. And both of
us may be puzzled by the others’ response. That would happen because we used
the same general term for two specific experiences. Generalities are always
hypnotic and prone to creating misunderstandings.
The implication is that there is a technology to
communication! Well, if you’re reading this site, you already know that!!
People who do hypnotherapy and hypnosis use many common techniques. In fact,
in this day of rapid dissemination of information, techniques become common
rather quickly. Ironically, it the hardware that is usually overlooked –
technical programs are very jazzy!
But for transformation understanding the hardware is
crucial. Some therapists relate to their clients’ hardware as if it were
circuit boards and silicon chips. My approach is to practice recognizing and
treating you as if you are a liquid holographic crystal – with no boundaries
or circuits necessary. This is what I mean by calling my approach to
hypnotherapy Transpersonal or Spiritual. Liquid holographic crystals are
supremely intelligent and powerful, yet ironically, naïve. They can be
convinced to believe that they are made of circuit boards, silicon chips, even
wires and pulleys. And convinced that beneficial change has to be hard and
painful. If you and your therapist are thus convinced -- it will be a
self-fulfilling experience.
I invite you to discover the true nature of your
Being/Intelligence/Power-To-Change-For-The-Better. We will use language, body,
and breath to enter Enhanced Learning States (forget hypnosis and
hypnotherapy) that will enable you to free yourself from unnecessary
limitations and to succeed in all areas of your life as a delightful
consequence of contacting the True Nature of your Being.
